Welcome to NZ Abalone Pearls

Welcome to my Abalone (Paua) Pearl  homepage.

Over 30 years ago while living in the Chatham Islands, 800 kms off the coast of NZ, I accidentally came across some amazing natural formations within a live Abalone. I have hung onto these beautiful creations of nature for many years, but only in the last couple of years decided to investigate what they actually were. You can see this collection of four pearl specimens from the Chatham Islands by following the "Large Pearls" link after on the PEARLS tab above. I have also had three of the large pearls made into pendants. Being inexperienced in this field I have had to ask many questions and read many articles to establish my own views and theories on this subject and through this I have developed a passion for these jewels of the sea.

In a totally unrelated outing, this time on mainland New Zealand, I have also come across what I feel is a rare occurrence, where small formations have developed literally within the structure of the Abalone shell. Through a multi-stage process the pearls can be extracted and again show the amazing way nature responds to certain unwelcome influences.

These pearls are different to what you might find produced in an Abalone pearl “Farm”, these formations are 100% natural with no human interaction or manipulation. Because of this they are also not produced on demand, nor are any two the same. They are truly a unique and natural product of their environment.

Please feel free to send me any information, questions or  suggestions through my “contact” page and I will do my best to answer any questions you may have.

I hope you enjoy the wonderful world of Abalone pearls as  much as I do.
